Report: Estonia one of most cyber-secure countries in EU ({{commentsTotal}})

According to the recently published Business Software Alliance (BSA) report, Estonia, Austria and Netherlands are the most cyber-secure countries in Europe.

The Czech Republic and the UK are also doing well, while Ireland, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania are at high risk.

The "EU Cybersecurity Dashboard" report, the first of its kind by BSA, provides a comprehensive overview of the state of the current cyber-security frameworks and capabilities both in the member states and at the EU level. It assessed each country on 25 criteria across five key areas.

Although there are no overall rankings or scores in the study, Estonia comes out on top in terms of having in place the legal foundations and operational entities for tackling cyber-security issues. What it could do next is create sector specific cyber-security plans.

The report also found that while no formalized public-private partnerships exist, public entities do work closely with relevant private sector organisations.

Estonia was one of the first countries to develop a national cyber-security strategy in 2008, following large-scale attacks in 2007. The strategy was updated in 2014.

In addition, Estonia also has a wide range of legislation that covers information security and cyber-security and a well-established computer emergency response team (CERT Estonia), responsible for managing security incidents in .ee computer networks.

NATO's Cyber Security Center of Excellence is also based in Estonia.
