Savisaar still in critical condition in Tartu University Hospital
Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar, 64, is in an intensive care unit at the Tartu University Hospital. He is suffering from a serious infection but his situation did not worsen overnight, his party said.
“Medical staff have found the cause for the illness and are now able to direct treatment more precisely. As we have previously said, it is a serous infection,” Center Party spokesman Taavi Pukk said on Friday.
Postimees reported on Thursday that Savisaar, who is one of the nation's longest serving politicians, is in a artificial coma.
The daily wrote that Savisaar was operated on on Wednesday evening.
Delfi reported that Savisaar has pneumonia in both lungs.
He was last seen in public on Tuesday at the funeral of actor Eino Baskin, where he reportedly was coughing badly. He had just returned from an official trip to Thailand.
Savisaar is no stranger to illness, having suffered a heart attack in 2003. He also has high blood pressure and suffers from diabetes.
