The latest QS World University Rankings by Subject highlights the world’s top universities in a range of popular subject areas, covering 36 subjects as of 2015. University of Tartu (UT) is among the world's best in five subjects.
Published annually since 2011, the rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. UT's overall ranking has improved each year, achieving a record 379th position last year.
The latest QS list brings out the subjects UT is doing very well.
The university is most successful in communication & media studies, sharing 101-150 rank with the Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University in the US and Bournemouth University in the UK, for example.
UT is also among the top in philosophy, sharing the 151-200 bracket with Paris-based Ecole Polytechnique and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, among others.
In English language & literature it ranks 201-250, just like the Michigan State University in the US and University of Roehampton in the UK.
It is also doing well in modern languages (251-300, same as University of Aberdeen and University of Miami, for example) and in medicine (301-400, sharing the rank with University of St Andrews, UK, and University of Kansas, among others).
QS World University Rankings compiled and studied data from over 3,500 universities around the world, out of which almost 900 made it to rankings with at least some subjects.
