Remo Savisaar's photo "Hygiene," depicting a kingfisher cleaning its wing, has won the Big Wolf award for the best nature photo of 2015.

The Estonian nature photo competition took place for the 15th time this year. The winner, selected from nearly 9,000 entries by 1,203 authors, was announced on Monday night at the Estonia Concert Hall. In addition to the main prize, 14 Dancing Wolf trophies were awarded across several categories.

In the description of the photo, Savisaar says he has spent years trying to snap the brief moment it takes a kingfisher to clean its wings, and finally succeeded.

The album with all awarded works can be viewed here.

The competition is organized by Looduse Omnibuss, a nature portal, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, and others.
