For the past eight years, the “Flavours of Estonia” program has chosen the 50 best restaurants in the country. 2015 selection was announced today.
The best dining places ranking proves that foodies are not only gathered in the country's capital Tallinn. Tartu and Pärnu have four restaurants each in the list, Otepää three, and Viljandi and Kuressaare one each. Most eateries in the top 50 offer modern fusion, but traditional and ethnic cuisine is also represented.
More than 1,300 restaurants, cafes and pubs are in the competition, out of which the 50 are chosen each spring. In October, industry professionals make further evaluation and publish the final rankings.
The 50 best restaurants were chosen from approximately 1,300 restaurants, cafes and pubs. The final rankings will be published in October when a panel that includes 30 food critics from Estonia and abroad, has given its verdict.
Although Estonia has no Michelin star restaurants yet, the quality and variety of culinary culture has improved a year after year – the international visitors have cited food as one of the most positive baits about Estonia, according to the study conducted by FutureBrand.
“Flavors of Estonia” was launched in 2008 to support the development of culinary skills and introduce Estonia as a land of good food. Last year's top award for the best restaurant went to Noa in Tallinn.
