Ambassador to the Balkans to accept Moscow post
According to unconfirmed media reports, Arti Hilpus, currently the Estonian ambassador to Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina, is set to replace Jüri Luik as the ambassador to Russia, one of the most important Estonian representations abroad.
A spokesman for the foreign ministry told Postimees the Cabinet will discuss a candidate proposed by the foreign minister today. If that candidate is approved by the government, he or she will also need the green light from the president and successfully apply for a Russian visa.
Postimees said the candidate in question is Hilpus, who has a degree in history from the University of Tartu, having later studied at the Geneva Center for Security Policy.
He has previously been the ambassador to Norway and Iceland.
Luik will take the helm at the International Center for Defense and Security, which is based in Tallinn.
