Tax Board to destroy 8 tons of hookah tobacco ({{commentsTotal}})

According to a decision by the Harju County Court, the Tax Board will destroy eight tons of waterpipe tobacco. The tobacco was smuggled into Estonia illegally.

Mailin Aasmäe, a spokesman for the Tax Board, told Eesti Ekspress the tobacco will be mixed with trash and incinerated.

The haul was discovered in a container from the United Arab Emirates, which should have contained coal, but had 8,154 kilograms of hookah tobacco and 2,364 kilograms of hookah charcoal.

Authorities were unable to pin the crime on any one, but the tobacco would have left the state without 700,000 euros in tax, had it been illegally sold in Estonia.
