Free Party MP: party still looking for its Weltanschauung
Free Party Parliament faction member Andres Ammas said the party's arrival in politics has been stellar and it is more of a protest party, which is the reason there is no established political leaning yet in the Free Party.
“Out party was primarily born out of protest against the power-grabbing of the four cartel parties in Estonia and has come into politics to change laws on political parties and elections,” Ammas told ERR radio.
He said the party has not yet been able to fully think through all of its political program stands, adding that the party is not happy with the media drawing two arrows [left and right] and putting parties on that scale. “I do not want to hold us higher than others, but I think currently we are incomparable with the other parties and we have to think how we should relate to other parties,” he said.
Ammas said the recent proposals by the Social Democrats to the coalition agreement are sympathetic to him. He said the Free Party and the Social Democrats have many similarities.
Speaking about the Center Party, Parliament's largest opposition force, Ammas said the Free Party would be willing to cooperate with the party, but an Edgar Savisaar-less Center Party would be easier to deal with. He said Savisaar has an autocratic personality and the two parties differ on security and defense issues.
