What happened in Estonia last week?
The Ministry of Social Affairs introduced a new bill on Monday that would set tougher regulations on alcohol ads and turn flashy commercials into concise notices. The bill will also limit the sale of alcohol in gas stations and ban happy hour offers. Tallinn City Government also followed suit – to protect public order in the historic capital, it decided to limit alcohol sales and opening hours of 10 venues in Tallinn Old Town.
The trial over a 15-year-old student who shot and killed a teacher in Viljandi in October last year, in Estonia's first school-shooting incident, came to an end on Tuesday. The Tartu County Court sentenced the youngster to nine years in prison.
Slovak President Andrej Kiska was in Tallinn last week, while Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas visited Dubai to sign a memorandum of cooperation in e-governance and ICT. Estonian troops, meanwhile, are in Spain, taking part in NATO's Trident Juncture 2015 exercise.
On Friday, the Tallinn Circuit Court ruled that the suspension of Edgar Savisaar from his office as the Mayor of Tallinn was legal and will not be overturned. Savisaar will remain suspended until the end of a bribery investigation against him.
