Tallinn city government has proposed a 570.4-million-euro budget for 2016. The figure represents a 7.8-percent increase.

The budget will have to be approved by the council, but since the ruling Center Party has an absolute majority, that should not be a problem.

Income tax from residents is expected to fuel the budget increase. Tax on personal earning is expected to reach 326.3 million euros next year. Land tax should bring in 27.8 million and special purpose funding 100.4 million.

Deputy Mayor Taavi Aas said roads repairs will swallow up 54 million euros. “The larger projects are the Haabersti crossing, Gonsiori street, construction of Reid street and converting Koidula 23 into a kindergarten,” he said, adding that Linnahall, a national stadium and a new Tallinn hospital are also on the cards.

The city will invest 16 million into education, 6.1 million into sports, including to the Kadriorg Stadium and Kalev Sports Hall.

The city's 2015 budget was 529.2 million euros, although with two additional budgets, that figure increased to 567.8 million euros.
