Kaljurand to visit Iran
Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand will visit Iran next month. Estonia and Iran held political consultations in Tehran in February, where representatives of the foreign ministries of the two countries talked about bilateral relations and the Middle East.
Kaljurand announced at a press conference on Tuesday that she would be travelling with a trade delegation. In the talks in February, both countries expressed mutual interest in promoting their relations, and highlighted that cultural cooperation was already functioning successfully, and that there was a readiness as well to intensify cooperation in the fields of education and economy.
"Estonian businesses are interested in the Iranian market and in contacts to Iranian businesses,” the Estonian Foreign Ministry's political director Paul Teesalu said after the meeting in February.
The visit is scheduled for April 10 and 11.
Relations between Iran and the West had improved significantly after the Iran nuclear deal entered into effect last summer. International sanctions against Iran were lifted in January this year.
European Commission representatives led by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini will visit Tehran shortly after, on April 16.
