Lithuanian carrier Transaviabaltika Aviation is interested in serving the Tallinn-Kuressaare and Tallinna-Kärdla air routes previously operated by the currently suspended Estonian carrier Avies.

"We are interested in taking part in this public procurement tender as a tenderer," wrote Transaviabaltika board member Dovilė Tamošiūnaitė in a letter to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, requesting access to the procurement documents.

On April 8, the Estonian ministry declared a procurement for the contract to restore air service to the capitals of the islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, which had been interrupted a week prior when the Estonian Civil Aviation Administration (ECAA) suspended the airline Avies’ air operator’s certificate (AOC) for six months, forcing the latter to cease all flight operations on April 1.

Avies had served routes to Kuressaare, Kärdla, as well as the Swedish capital of Stockholm, serving a total of 12,000 on its Tallinn-Kuressaare route alone in summer 2015.

Transaviabaltika has previously rented an aircraft to Avies.
