IRL below 5% threshold in fresh party survey
For the first time since the March 2015 elections, support for the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) has fallen below the 5% election threshold, a survey commissioned by ERR indicates.
The survey, conducted by Turu-Uuringute AS, shows support for the junior government coalition party at 4% in April, down from 6% in March.
Overall, no significant changes were recorded in the ratings of the six government parties in the April survey compared with March, with the opposition Center Party retaining its number one position with a rating of 23%, and the Reform Party, senior member of the ruling three-party coalition, trailing at 21%. Considering the error margin, the two parties have equal support among the electorate.
In March the two parties stood at 25% and 23%, respectively.
The same holds true for the next three parties. Considering the margin of error, the Estonian Conservative People's Party (EKRE), the Social Democrats (SDE) and the Free Party are all about even. In the April survey, EKRE would have been the choice of 14% of voters if elections were held the day after, SDE of 12%, and the Free Party of 11%.
In March, SDE and EKRE were supported equally by 13% and the Free Party by 12% of eligible voters.
However, comparing the ratings with the average of the same parties in 2015, support for EKRE has clearly increased, whereas the ratings of Free Party and SDE are rather on a downward trend.
