Average monthly income in Estonia tops 1,000€ for first time in 2015
According to a recent press release from Statistics Estonia, the country’s average monthly gross income exceeded the 1,000 euro mark for the first time last year. Continuing to grow at an average rate of 6 percent annually, Estonia’s average monthly salary reached 1,013 euros in 2015.
Gross monthly income exceeded 900 euros in eight Estonian counties, among which average monthly income exceeded 1,000 euros in Harju, Tartu and Hiiu Counties; income in the seven remaining counties was lower, with the lowest average, 847 euros, being recorded in Ida-Viru County.
Broken down by parish, the highest average incomes were recorded in parishes in Harju County, including Viimsi parish outside of the capital of Tallinn, which once again topped the list with an average gross monthly income of 1,442 euros; in comparison, the average monthly income in Tallinn was over 300 euros lower, at nearly 1,100 euros in 2015. Piirissaare and Peipsiääre Parishes and the town of Kallaste, all in Tartu County, recorded the lowest average monthly incomes, each falling below 700 euros.
Men on average earned 270 euros per month more than women last year, although the gender pay gap has decreased somewhat in recent years due to women’s recent greater annual growth of income (7 percent among women; 5 percent among men).
Statistics Estonia based its analyses on Estonian Tax and Customs Board data as of March 13, 2016.
