Gallery: President Ilves receives Olympic team
President Toomas Hendrik Ilves received the Estonian Olympic team in Kadriorg on Tuesday. It was better to lose and show good sportsmanship than to cheat one’s way to a victory, the president said, and wished the team all the best of luck.
The Estonian Olympic team counts 90 members. 46 of them are athletes, to compete in 13 disciplines, and 44 are support staff. Of all the athletes going, 24 are participating in their first Summer Olympics.
The oldest member of the team is 37-year-old Gerd Kanter, the youngest member is Anna Maria Sepp at 20.
The most prominent sport in the team is athletics, with 17 athletes competing.
