Estonian War of Independence monument in Tallinn undergoing repairs ({{commentsTotal}})


An inspection of the War of Independence Victory Column revealed that the rear wall and lighting of the monument needed reconstruction. Repairs will cost the state 79,000 euros.

In the course of repairs, granite tiles which have come loose from the monument's rear wall will be removed and replaced with new tiles; this phase of repairs began in July and will continue through August. Following the replacement of the tiles, work on the monument will continue as the lighting for the rear wall is also replaced during September and October.

No other deficiencies were noted during the monument's most recent inspection.

To date, cconstruction and maintenance of the war monument has cost the Estonian state a total of 8.5 million euros.
