After a brief period of being in 4th, long jumper Ksenija Balta ended up placing 6th overall in the women's long jump, while of three Estonian competitors in the men's javelin throw, Tanel Laanmäe broke the top 20, placing 18th overall. Two Estonians also remain in the competition after the first five events of the men's decathlon.
Athletics: Women's long jump
Following three rounds, in which a 6.79 jump, her season best to date, boosted her to 4th place and landed her in the finals, Estonian long jumper Ksenija Balta came in 6th place overall after being unable to best her third-round distance.
American long jumper Tianna Bartoletta took the gold with a jump of 7.17; silver went to American Brittney Reese with a jump of 7.15 while a 7.08 jump earned Serbian Ivana Španović the bronze.
Athletics: Men's javelin throw
Estonian javelin thrower Tanel Laanmäe, competing in Group A, placed 18th overall with a best throw of 80.45. In Group B, Risto Mätas came in 22nd with a throw of 79:40, while Magnus Kirt followed in 23rd with a throw of 79.33.
Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago led the qualifications round with a throw of 88.68.
Athletics: Men's decathlon
Following the first day of the decathlon, which included the 100m sprint, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m run, Estonian decathletes Karl Robert Saluri and Maicel Uibo are currently ranked 26th and 27th, respectively, out of 32.
100m sprint: Saluri 10.82 (901 points); Uibo 11.16 (825 points); winner Damian Warner (Canada) 10.30. 1st place overall: Warner (Canada), 1,023 points.
Long jump: Uibo 7.14 (x - 7.14 - 7.13); Saluri 7.02 (6.94 - 7.02 - x); first place Ashton Eaton (USA) 7.94. 1st place overall: Eaton (USA), 2,030 points.
Shot put: Uibo 0; Saluri 13.88 (13.88 - 13.74 - 13.55); first place Kevin Mayer (France) 15.76. 1st place overall: Eaton (USA), 2,440 points.
High jump: Uibo 2.13; Saluri 1.77; first place Jeremi Taiwo (USA). 1st place overall: Eaton (USA), 3,660. points.
400m run: Saluri 50.32; Uibo 51.08; first place Eaton (USA) 46.07. 1st place overall: Eaton (USA), 4,621.
Four Estonians to compete on Thursday
Decathletes Karl Robert Saluri and Maicel Uibo will continue competing in the men's decathlon while Epp Mäe will make her Olympic debut in women's wrestling and Rasmus Mägi will run in the 400m hurdles final.
