Pollster TNS Emor's Aivar Voog said on Friday that the Free Party’s lower ratings were connected to increased support for the ruling Reform Party. This was due to the fact that voters would often see the Free Party as an alternative to Reform.

Following this logic, when Reform voters are unhappy they tend to switch support to the Free Party, but reverse their position just as easily.

“When we look at the Free Party and Reform, we see that the Free Party’s ratings were strong when Reform’s rating were weak,” Voog told the Baltic News Service, commenting on the results of TNS Emor’s latest survey for BNS.

“The Free Party has been an alternative to mainstream parties whose position was weak, but now that the Reform Party has overcome this period of weakness, the Free Party as just an alternative without a clear message and vision hasn't been able to stay on that level,” Voog said.

The most popular party in Estonia in August was the Reform Party, supported by 28% of respondents, results of a fresh survey commissioned by BNS and carried out by pollster TNS Emor showed.

Reform was followed by the opposition Center Party with 23%, the Social Democratic Party (SDE) with 15%, the opposition Conservative People's Party (EKRE) with 13%, the Free Party with 9%, and the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) with 8% support.

Estonia’s Easter Monday time loop: Discussing an additional day off

Every year, Estonia reliably asks itself the question whether or not Easter Monday should be made a public holiday. Opinions differ. While one side emphasizes the importance of family time, the other thinks an additional day off would threaten economic growth.

In Sunday’s “Samost ja Rumm” radio debate show, editor-in-chief of ERR’s online news, Anvar Samost, and journalist and former politician Hannes Rumm discussed the potential and actual candidates for the chairmanship of the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL). At the time of the broadcast, Helir-Valdor Seeder had not yet made his intention to run public.
