EKRE plans to collect more than 21 signatures to nominate Mart Helme in electoral college
The Conservative People's Party of Estonia (EKRE) has set a goal to collect more than the minimum 21 signatures necessary to nominate Mart Helme as a presidential candidate in the electoral college.
EKRE board member Martin Helme told ERR on Wednesday that rumors being spread by the competition that the party wouldn't be able to get enough signatures to nominate Mart Helme were untrue.
"The plan is to collect more than 21 signatures, although I won't yet reveal the exact number," said the younger Helme. "I will do so once they are all [on paper] between covers."
According to Martin Helme, they already had the signatures of some electors, while others would definitely be giving theirs and yet others were considering doing so. "Work continues and there is plenty of time," he said.
The National Electoral Committee will begin registering candidates for the electoral college vote on Sept. 20. The electoral vote is scheduled to vote on Saturday, Sept. 24.
