Baltic interior ministers sign joint statements with U.S. Homeland Security representative
The interior ministers of the three Baltic states and the Assistant Secretary for International Affairs of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security signed a joint statement on Monday to strengthen security cooperation.
Minister of the Interior Hanno Pevkur (Reform), his colleagues Richards Kozlovskis of Latvia and Tomas Zilinskas of Lithuania, and Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Alan D. Bersin signed the joint statement in Tallinn on Monday. According to Pevkur, the aim is to strengthen the cooperation of the four countries in border safety, the fight against terrorism, cyber security, and the fight against international organized crime.
Pevkur said that the exchange of information was crucial in today’s tense security situation, and that law enforcement agencies needed to work together to nip security threats in the bud.
He added that the countries would look for new ways of exchanging biometrical data to help ensure that the background of all immigrants and asylum seekers is safe.
