13 Syrian, Iraqi refugees arrive in Estonia
This week, a total of 13 war refugees in three families accepted under the EU's migrant distribution plan arrived in Estonia from Greece, the Ministry of the Interior reported on Friday.
One of the Syrian families consists of a mother, father and one child. The father is a doctor, the woman has worked in a pharmacy and both have helped other war refugees as volunteers. In addition their mother tongue, the father speaks English while the mother has an elementary command of both English and French.
The five-member family from Iraq consists of a father, mother and three children. The mother has higher education in biology and in addition to their mother tongue speaks elementary English, while the father has worked in the services sector.
The five-member family from Syria includes a mother, father and three school-aged children. Both the mather and father are construction engineers by education and have experience working in this field. In addition to their native language, both have an elementary command of English as well.
All three families were met by their assigned support persons upon their arrival to Estonia and taken directly to their new homes in Tartu, Haapsalu and Põlva.
As of Friday, Estonia has accepted 60 refugees under the EU's migrant distribution program.
