1,000 Russian citizens cast ballots in advance voting in Narva, Tartu
Approximately 1,000 Russian citizens living in Estonia took part in advance voting for the State Duma elections at polling stations in Narva and Tartu on Saturday; the ballot count for Tallinn yet remained incomplete. The remainder of Russian citizens are expected at polling stations today.
In Narva, 671 citizens of Russia came to the polls and more than 200 cast ballots in Tartu, a spokesman for the Russian Embassy told BNS. Voter turnout figures for the Estonian capital of Tallinn are expected to follow soon.
Russian citizens living in the Ida-Viru and Lääne-Viru electoral district served by the Narva consulate general number approximately 40,000.
The Russian Embassy in Tallinn organized special buses on Saturday to bring Russian citizens from Pärnu, Paldiski and Haapsalu to Tallinn for advance voting. The opportunity was offered only to residence of those three cities.
All other Russian citizens are expected at polling stations on election day on Sept. 18. There will be four polling stations open each in Tallinn and Narva and one additional polling station open in the southern city of Tartu on Sunday.
