EKRE nominates Mart Helme for president with 21 signatures
Early on Wednesday afternoon, the Conservative People's Party of Estonia (EKRE) delivered 21 signatures of support for the nomination of EKRE Chairman Mart Helme for president to the National Electoral Committee.
Following the submission of the signatures to the electoral committee, Helme told ETV's news broadcast "Aktuaalne kaamera" that he is sure that more electors than the 21 whose signatures were submitted on Thursday will vote for him in the elections on Saturday.
"I am absolutely sure of this," sid Helme. "And I am absolutely sure that I will be supported by many more people there."
Mart Helme was nominated for president by Martin Helme, Mart Helme, Raivo Põldaru, Arno Sild, Jaak madison, Henn Põlluaas, Uno Kaskpeid, Meelis Aianurm, Aleksander Sven Esse, Tiit Kala, Antti Leigri, Marko Matson, Rein Peedumäe, Toomas Vallimäe, Aivar Anijago, Jüri Kommusaar, Ene Toom, Arno Vares, Heiki Kukk, Anne Kalf and Sulev Viiron.
Of these, both Helmes, Põldaru, Sild, Madison, Põlluaas and Kaskpeit are members of EKRE's parliamentary group, and Aianurm, Esse, Kala, Peedumäe, Vallimäe and Anijag are members of the party. Toom is a member of the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL).
A recent poll conducted by ERR showed that at least ten members of the electoral college have promised to vote for Helme in the first round of elections in the electoral college on Saturday.
