Scientists of Klaipeda University are about to explore the wreckages of ships of Lithuanian origin that sank in Estonian waters.
The Foreign Ministry issued a permit for the scientists to conduct maritime archeological exploration in Estonian waters from aboard the vessel Brabander from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, the Foreign Ministry’s document register shows.
Spokespeople for the Estonian Heritage Board said that the Lithuanians will survey and chart military and commercial vessels connected to Lithuania that sank in Estonian waters. The different locations of the wreckage have already been established.
The permit issued by the Foreign Ministry says that if Estonia insisted, a representative of the country had to be allowed on board the research vessel and take part in any kind of work related to the research to be conducted.
After the completion of the expedition, the Lithuanian side will have to make all information gathered during its work available.
