A prisoner serving time in Tartu Prison called in a bomb threat on the Ministry of Justice on Tuesday morning.

According to the South District Prosecutor's Office, the prisoner made the call from a phone inside the prison designated for prisoners' use.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a man speaking in Russian called the police information hotline and informed them that there was a bomb located inside the Ministry of Justice building in Tallinn.

Following the phone call, police patrols checked the streets in the vicinity of the Ministry of Justice and ministry employees were evacuated from the building as the Rescue Board's bomb squad searched the building with the help of bomb-sniffing dogs.

The bomb squad completed their search at 10:45 a.m. after no threatening items were found.

Tartu Prison is conducting a criminal investigation into the incident which will be led by the South District Prosecutor's Office.
