Culture minister joins IRL and SDE in recalling state company supervisory board members ({{commentsTotal}})

Minister of Culture Indrek Saar (SDE) recalled six members of the Riigikogu as well as two ministers from the supervisory boards of state-owned foundations in his area of government.

Saar recalled Minister of the Environment Marko Pomerants (Reform) from the supervisory board of SA Virumaa Muuseumid, and Minister of Rural Affairs Urmas Kruuse (Reform) from the supervisory board of Eesti Laulu- ja Tantsupeo SA.

In addition, Saar recalled the Reform Party’s Aivar Sõerd from the supervisory board of SA Eesti Riiklik Sümfooniaorkester, his party colleague Lauri Luik from the supervisory board of SA Tehvandi Spordikeskus, Deniss Borodits from the supervisory board of Integratsiooni ja Migratsiooni Sihtasutus Meie Inimesed (MISA), member of the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) Viktoria Ladõnskaja and the Reform Party’s Igor Gräzin from the supervisory board of SA Vene Teater, and the opposition Free Party’s Krista Aru from the supervisory board of SA Teater Vanemuine.

Chairman of IRL Margus Tsahkna, standing in for Finance Minister Sven Sester (IRL), proposed recalling seven Reform Party MPs from the supervisory boards of seven state-owned companies on Friday, including recalling Laine Randjärv from the supervisory boards of AS Eesti Loto and SA Tallinna Tehnoloogiapark Tehnopol, Remo Holsmer and Toomas Kivimägi from the supervisory board of AS Liinirongid, Valdo Randpere from the supervisory board of AS Eesti Loots, Peep Aru from the supervisory board of AS EVR Cargo, Meelis Mälberg from the supervisory board of AS Eesti Teed, and Kalle Palling from the supervisory board of OÜ Eesti Keskkonnauuringute Keskus.

The chairman of Estonia’s Social Democratic Party (SDE), Jevgeni Ossinovski, said on Friday he had proposed to other SDE ministers to recall members of parliament from the supervisory boards of all state-owned companies and foundations established by the state in their area of governance.

The junior coalition partners decided to take this step on Friday after the Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas’ Reform Party agreed that the current way those supervisory board members were appointed was unconstitutional, but so far refused to take action and recall them.

While IRL and SDE don’t have any Riigikogu members on state company boards, the Reform Party, after 15 years in government, has plenty of members distributed across different government areas, among them several important party figureheads and former ministers.
