IRL: Strong right-wing economic program
The council of the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) approved the new coalition agreement on Saturday. It also adopted its action program. Like the other parties in the new government, IRL will get five ministries.
IRL chairman Margus Tsahkna said that the tax reform and the plan to revitalize the economy were important points in the new agreement. “The income tax rate won't rise, and there will be no progressive income tax,” Tsahkna said.
“Reducing the tax burden will influence 86% of Estonian workers, who will start paying less income tax. The companies’ income tax burden regarding dividend payments will also be reduced, state enterprises will be listed on the stock exchange, and necessary investments will be made. These are right-wing steps with a broad effect that will activate the economy and increase people’s incomes,” he added.
“The new coalition being created will be a challenge for IRL, but it will definitely be a new opportunity to contribute to Estonia’s development and stand for what is important to us — to contribute even more to security and national defense as well as promote national culture and the Estonian language. The new coalition will contribute more to regional, rural, and local government policy, which is also written into the coalition agreement,” chairman the party’s council, Helir-Valdor Seeder, said.
“We are the party with the strongest right-wing economic program, and this is also reflected in the coalition agreement,” Tsahkna said.
IRL will get the ministries of finance, justice, social protection, defense, and the environment. Their candidates to lead the ministries would be announced on Monday, the party said.
