MP Ivari Padar (SDE) is the Social Democrats’ candidate for chairman of the new Local Governments and National Reform Committee of the Riigikogu.

SDE Parliamentary Group Chairman Kalvi Kõva told ERR that work groups tasked with establishing the committee’s exact work program will set to work doing so next week.

Next week the chairmen of the SDE’s other committees as well; Helmen Kütt will be nominated for chairman of the Social Affairs Committee while Rainer Vakra will be nominated to chair the Environment Committee.

Hannes Hanso was elected chairman of the National Defence Committee last week.

The Riigikogu also decided to form another, separate study committee dedicated to addressing the population crisis; this study committee will be chaired by a member of the Center Party.
