Study: One third of foreign investors weigh Estonia over Finland
Of foreign investors who have planned to invest in Finland in recent years, 30 percent weighed Estonia as an alternative option, the results of a survey published by the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA) revealed.
According to the study results, Estonia was the leading competition, while nine percent of investors interested in investing in Finland weighed Sweden, seven percent Germany and six as an alternative, wrote daily Eesti Päevaleht (link in Estonian).
The study looked at which of the weighed options ultimately received the investment — while the investment still ended up going to Finland half the time, among those cases where Finland did not win and Estonia was one of the alternatives considered, the investment mostly ended up going to Estonia.
The ETLA study also looked at how many Finnish businesses have considered relocating their main offices abroad and, if so, where. Based on the results, an average of one in ten businesses is interested in relocating abroad, and when considering where to relocate, Estonia is by far the top choice.
39 percent of businesses considered relocating to Estonia, 12 percent to Sweden and 6 percent to Germany. Construction and transport businesses were among those most interested in relocating.
Of those businesses interested in relocating, however, just 38 actually end up realizing these plans, the majority of whom have already relocated or will soon be relocating to Estonia, according to the study's findings.
