Estonian government planning €315 million in strategic investments
Minister of Finance Sven Sester (IRL) has proposed to the government to plan strategic investments increasing Estonia's competitive and defense abilities in the amount of €315 million from 2018-2020.
"The plan is to make additional investments in infrastructure and improve access to reasonably priced high-speed internet across Estonia," Sester told BNS. "We also want, in cooperation with the City of Tallinn, to transform Linnahall into a respectable conference center and renew local housing resources in cooperation with local governments. We will also launch an additional defense investment program."
According to the plan, from 2018-2020 a total of €135 million will be invested in infrastructure, while €60 million will be invested in housing policy, €40 million in the renovation of Linnahall, €20 million in broadband internet connections and €60 million in the defense investment program.
Strategic investments are investments or investment support deriving from the government's principles which increase Estonia's economic growth and competitive ability and will result in socioeconomic gains for Estonian society.
According to the finance minister's plan, the strategic investment project will be financed as of next year from the structural surplus of previous years.
