Estonian president to make state visit to Finland
Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid and her husband Georgi-René Maksimovski will make a two-day state visit to Finland next week, the Office of the President of Finland announced on Monday.
President Sauli Niinistö and Mrs. Jenni Haukio will welcome the Estonian presidential couple at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7.
The two heads of state will discuss relations between Estonia and Finland, focusing on areas such as cooperation on economic issues as well as the ICT and educational sectors. Other topics of discussion will include the security situation in Europe and the Baltic Sea region, topical EU issues as well as relations with Russia and the U.S.
Later that same day, Kaljulaid will also meet with Speaker of the Eduskunta Maria Lohela and Prime Minister Juha Sipilä as well as participate in a seminar and panel discussion on business cooperation between Finland and Estonia to be held at the Team Finland House.
On Wednesday, March 8, Kaljulaid and her husband will be introduced to the Finnish education system, visiting Latokartano Primary School in Helsinki before traveling to Tampere, where Kaljulaid will visit Tampere University of Technology and Vapriikki Museum Center.
In addition to her husband, Kaljulaid will also be accompanied by Minister of Education and Research Mailis Reps and Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology Urve Palo as well as a 50-strong business delegation.
Kaljulaid first visited Finland as the Estonian head of state in October 2016, shortly after taking office; it was her first trip abroad as President of Estonia. The Finnish president last made a state visit to Estonia in May 2016.
