Estonia's competitiveness is nearing the average of EU regions, it can be seen from the report of the EU Regional Competitive Index 2016 published by the European Commission.
While the average competitiveness index of the 263 regions making up the EU is 55 points, Estonia's score was 53.9 points, ranking Estonia 141st.
In comparison, Latvia's competitiveness score was 35.1 points and Lithuania's 34.2 points, placing Estonia's two southern neighbors in 191st and 194th place, respectively. The EU's most competitive region is the UK's London region, it can be seen from the report.
Estonia's strongest results were reported in basic education, macroeconomic stability as well as higher education and lifelong learning and innovation, while weaker results were reported in market size, infrastructure, health of the population, business sophistication and labor market efficiency.
The index aims to provide a consistent, comparable and actionable measure of economic and social issues for the regions making up the EU which helps them to measure their competitiveness and compare it to that of their peers.
