Ossinovski wants e-voting also on election day
According to chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDE), Jevgeni Ossinovski, the period of e-voting should be shortened, while at the same time it should also be allowed on election day.
According to current law, the electronic vote is part of Estonia’s early voting in parliamentary as well as in local elections.
“To strengthen democratic principles, the e-election period should be shortened. At the same time it is absolutely necessary to create a technical solution for allowing electronic voting on election day to protect the uniformity of elections and the equality of voters. It would add extra convenience to our e-election system,” Ossinovski said on social media on Saturday.
According to the SDE chairman, the country’s e-elections are a safe and convenient way for every Estonian to do their civic duty and vote. Ossinovski added that calls to abolish Estonia’s e-elections were “ridiculous”.
