Whether it was sabotaged by the Grinch or the Centre Party's political rivals, Tallinn's cherished Christmas tree belly flopped today just days after having been erected in the Town Hall Square.

In a similar incident, last year's tree keeled over just days after its arrival.

Emergency services were notified at 14:59, but no one had been injured in the accident, a Rescue Board official told uudised.err.ee.

Deputy Mayor Kalle Klandorf said the tree fell toward the performance stage and that Christmas market booths were not damaged in the fall. Klandorf said Tallinn will put the sprawling embodiment of the holiday spirit back in place by this evening at the latest.

The tree arrived on November 17.

Sometimes in the celebratory holiday season, even Estonian tree-erectors forget about the laws of physics...
