Deaf and Hearers Break the Silence
Youths from six European countries, some of them deaf and others who have the ability to hear, performed song, dance and theatrical numbers at the Tammsaare Park in downtown Tallinn on July 9.
The performance was part of the international youth exchange project "Break the Silence Between Us," which integrates deaf young people with peers who can hear, and provides those with a hearing disability the tools necessary to cope with everyday tasks.
Besides Estonia, participants from France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal and Italy took part in the seven-day project, held from July 4 to 10 at the Aegviidu resort in Harju County.
The gathering was put on by the Together Network, a worldwide organization uniting thousands of young people through international youth exchanges and voluntary service.
Around 2,000 people with hearing impairment live in Estonia, according to ETV.
