Nearly one in five drunk drivers caught in Helsinki last year Estonian
Last year, a total of 1,684 drunk drivers were caught in the Finnish capital of Helsinki, 303 of whom were Estonian.
According to Finnish police statistics, 156 Estonian drivers were caught driving with a blood alcohol content (BAC) below 1.2 promille while another 147 Estonians were caught driving with a BAC exceeding 1.2 promille, reported Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat.
The legal limit for driving in Finland is 0.5 promille.
Since 2010, the proportion of Estonian drunk drivers in Helsinki has remained between 16-21 percent every year, statistics show.
Approximately 27,000 Estonians live in Helsinki, and according to Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) data, approximately 50,000 people of Estonian origin are employed in the Greater Helsinki area annually.
