Finnish court sentences Estonian man to prison for death of partner
Finland's first-tier Southern Savo District Court has found Andre Paas, 27, of Estonia guilty of choking his partner to death and sentenced him to nine years in prison.
The court also ordered Paas to pay €15,000 in compensation to the victim's six-year-old son, reported Finnish regional paper Savon Sanomat.
According to the charges against him, Paas choked his partner to death in his home in Virtasalmi, Etelä-Savo County, on Nov. 7 of last year. The six-year-old child was in the home at the time but did not witness the crime.
According to the paper's information, the woman had moved from Estonia to live with Paas just two weeks prior to her death.
After he had choked her to death, Paas attempted to hide the body, however he decided to call the police and admit to his crime.
Paas refused to provide testimony in court.
