Kontaveit off to victorious start with two-set win at French Open
Anett Kontaveit (WTA 53), Estonia's top-ranked women's tennis player, got off to a victorious start at the French Open on Monday, defeating Romanian Monica Niculescu (WTA 54), daily Postimees reported.
Following a game lasting one hour and 21 minutes, Kontaveit, 21, secured her position in the next round by defeating the 29-year-old Romanian 7:5, 6:1.
On Friday, May 19, Kontaveit was defeated 6:2, 6:4 by Romania's Simona Halep (WTA 4) after defeating Germany's Angelique Kerber (WTA 1) in a career best 6:4, 6:0 at the Italian Open in Rome.
According to the latest rankings released by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on last Monday, Kontaveit ranked 52nd overall, an improvement of 16 spots.
