Construction begins on new section of Tallinn-Tartu Highway
Construction has begun on a four-lane section of Tallinn-Tartu Highway between Kose and Ardu that will shorten the overall length of the highway by 5.3 kilometers.
The four-lane section between Kose and Mäo will be constructed in two stages. Construction on the 25-kilometer section between Kose and Võõbu is already underway, while work on the 15-kilomter section from Võõbu to Mäo is scheduled to begin in 2019, writes daily Postimees (link in Estonian).
As the Kose-Ardu section will follow a completely new route, existing traffic can continue to use the current route without restrictions caused by large-scale construction work until the completion of the new road in 2020.
The 40-kilometer, four-lane section of highway between Kose and Mäo is scheduled to be fully completed by 2022.
The highway project is expected to shave nine minutes off the total travel time between Tallinn and Tartu.
