Tsahkna leaves Finance Committee, Nutt back in Constitutional Committee
The Board of the Riigikogu on Thursday confirmed Margus Tsahkna leaving the Finance Committee and joining the National Defence Committee as well as Mart Nutt (IRL) leaving the Finance Committee and joining the Constitutional Committee.
In early December, in order to overcome a deadlock on excise taxes, junior coalition member Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) shifted Nutt from the Constitutional Committee to the Finance Committee, which ensured the ruling coalition the majority needed to push through its vote.
Previously, a bill had failed in the Finance Committee which, among other things, included a reduction in the next planned alcohol excise duty hike; this in turn had meant a delay in adopting the 2018 state budget.
Tsahkna, who left IRL earlier this year, ended up casting the deciding vote on the bill in the Finance Committee.
