Negligent Parents Give Lifeguards a Headache
Since the beginning of the summer season, 31 children have gone missing before being found again in the public beach of Pärnu.
In response, lifeguards have started handing out wristbands for kids onto which parents can write their phone numbers.
Two other problems in beach life are people who fall asleep and get sunburned, and glass containers that may injure other visitors. Life guards are prepared to provide first aid, but on some more serious occasions, they've had to call the ambulance. Fortunately, injuries that require emergency attention have been fairly few in number, according to Roland Sünt, a senior lifeguard at the beach.
For some swimmers, the turbidity of the sea water has become a major issue of concern, but Sünt said beach-goers have no reason to be upset because the water is completely clean, and its seemingly muddy appearance is caused by the sandy seabed and the large number of swimmers.
