The Ministry of Culture and the Architects Union have announced a public competition for a design and location for a memorial to the victims of communism. The deadline for entries is November 1.
In a statement, Minister of Culture Rein Lang said it is the duty of Estonians to pay tribute to the victims of communism. He emphasized that an imaginative concept notwithstanding, entries in the competition should be feasible as well.
A panel of representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Architects Union, Sculptors Association, Landscape Architects Union and Art Historians Association will review the entries.
Three prizes await the best entries, as judged on merits of the concept, place-specific nature and feasibility - first prize of 5,000 euros, second prize of 3,000 euros and third prize of 2,000 euros.
The results of the competition, which is featured in the government's coalition agreement, will be announced on November 15.
