Fewer Suckers at Narva Area Festival
Lamprey populations have been dwindling in the Narva River, but the town at the river's mouth did not let that get in the way of its annual tribute to the jawless, scaleless marine creature.
The lower lamprey catch mainly meant that there was less food to go around at the Narva-Jõesuu Lamprey Festival over the weekend of September 25-26. Supplies of the cabbage soup with lamprey, a local speciality, ran low after just an hour at the festival over the weekend, according to the news program Aktuaalne Kaamera.
