The Minister of Social Affairs Hanno Pevkur and Zsuzsanna Jakab, director of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Regional Office for Europe, signed the 2012-2013 cooperation agreement today in Copenhagen.
Strengthening the health care system, boosting prevention and treatment of infectious and non-communicable illnesses and the promotion of healthy lifestyle are some of the main points of cooperation.
In addition, preventive measures to tackle population obesity and the establishment of a training curriculum for nutrition counselors are listed among the tasks for the two-year period.
Guidelines and practices to reduce the salt, sugar and fat content in foods will also be established, alongside with rules to regulate food and beverages advertising targeted at children.
Several activities already in progress, such as providing better access to medication, improving the primary level health care and analysis of the sustainability of the current health care funding system will continue.
