In December, the average cost of grocery shopping was 13.8 percent higher than a year before, whereas a 7.3 percent rise was recorded in the last quarter alone, according to the Institute of Economic Research.

The average weekly food basket cost 62 euros last month. The economics organization, owned by the Estonian Chamber of Commerce, projects an improving brighter economy for 2011, although unemployment is still high, demand is low and international competitiveness is weak.

    BBC News reports that world food prices are at a new high, so this isn't confined to just Estonia nor is it due only to the lead up to the euro.
