Fresh numbers from the Association of Automobile Dealers and Service Companies show that new car sales totaled 1,565 in March, an increase of 28 percent compared to the same month of last year.

The year-on-year growth marks a continuation of recent trends. February's sales total of 1,128 cars was about 30 percent higher that what was a year earlier and the total figure for the first quarter of 2012 beat last year's result by 24 percent.

The best selling makes in March were Toyota, Volkswagen and Skoda, according to the association's data, which does not cover sales of Renault or Dacia.

Last year, Estonians purchased 15,350 new vehicles, an annual rise of 73.5 percent. However, the figure is still modest compared to pre-recession boom years. In 2007, for instance, a total of 30,900 new cars were purchased.
