Minister of Economic Affairs Juhan Parts said yesterday that Estonian Air is on the market, speaking on TV3+, a Russian language television network.

Speaking about the future of the company, Parts said that after SAS opted out of Estonian Air, the government had a choice of either keeping the national carrier or not, Äripäev reported.

Parts added that the best solution would be to find a partner. “I don't see an option that makes me happy and to be honest: Estonian Air is for sale, everyday,” Parts said.

The minister finished the interview by saying that his family is his number one priority but Estonian Air takes a close second.

Best idea till now, but I’m afraid nobody will be interested anymore in marrying a terminal ill bride. A company as small as EA, flying with 8 small planes (included EA- regional) of 3 different types of 3 different constructors out of 3 different continents, is economical suicide. If the brand “Estonian Air” would still been hot, SAS would be the first to buy, but they don’t have any interest. Today’s flight by EA to the Copenhagen hub, can easy be taken over by there own SAS planes, today in “Code Sharing” tomorrow SAS. Air Baltic and FinnAir are already serving today there hubs at Riga and Helsinki-Vantaa, so no change on these sides, same story for Lufthansa serving Frankfurt and Munich hubs. Leaving the Brussels and Amsterdam line, today “Code Sharing” tomorrow Brussels Airlines and KLM. Vienna line might come back by Austrian, together with Prague? It’s hard, but closing the books looks to me the only reasonable thing to do. As a frequent EA- flyer, I regret to see these nice painted planes disappear. But a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor.
