Pärnu McDonald’s Opens Despite Lacking Building-Use Permit
A new McDonald’s fast-food joint opened its doors in Pärnu, despite what officials said were extensive building code inadequacies.
Due to the violations spotted during inspections, the national agency that sets safety standards refused to provide a license to use the building, although it did not directly prohibit the store from opening, reported ERR radio.
"In the event that [the problem] is not eliminated, the Rescue Board will have to act more forcefully," said the agency’s surveillance director, Indrek Laanepõld.
"New buildings must satisfy the established norms and they must be certified as safe," he said. “In this case, the main problem is that [safety] has not been confirmed because documentation is missing. The important things are there, but certain nuances need to be changed.”
