Number of Tax Debtors Drops 15% in 2011
The number of tax debtors had shrunk to 50,300 by the close of 2011, a 15 percent decline from the beginning of the year, according to the Tax and Customs Board.
The total amount owed also decreased, by 6 percent, ending up at 372 million euros.
Though private individuals make up a full 68 percent of those in arrears, it's actually companies that owe the most, accounting for as much as 91 percent of the total unpaid bill, uudised.err.ee reported.
Collecting the outstanding 372 million will be no easy task, however, as nearly 108 million is owed by companies that have been declared bankrupt and tax authorities consider another 57 million unrecoverable.
