The Maritime Authority has set the date, January 31, for the ice clearing work to begin in the Bay of Pärnu.
Beginning February 6, vessels entering and leaving the port of Pärnu, Estonia's most important cargo port on the Gulf of Riga, will have to have an ice class corresponding to Lloyd's 1C and a minimum main engine capacity of 1,600 kilowatts.
A multipurpose EVA-316 vessel will report on duty in Pärnu on January 31. According to the Maritime Administration's announcement, the icebreaker will not be able to service barge trains.
Relatively mild winter conditions have put off the icebreaking season in the Gulf of Riga. Last year, the EVA-316 started work on the Bay of Pärnu already on December 12.
